Fecundis Lab S.L. has received funding from the CDTI Multi-país programme for Spermy, an international R&D project focused on the development and validation of an artificial intelligence platform for semen analysis in assisted reproduction treatments.
The Spermy project aims to support a more personalized prognostic and diagnostic approach in assisted reproduction by applying advanced analysis to semen samples from patients undergoing fertility treatment.
Spermy is funded under the Multi-país programme, linked to the PERTE for Vanguard Health, within the framework of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
An AI platform for sperm function analysis
Semen analysis remains a key step in the assessment of male fertility and assisted reproduction treatments. However, conventional semen parameters do not fully capture sperm functionality or the biological events that may influence treatment outcomes.
Spermy aims to address this need by developing an artificial intelligence platform capable of analyzing sperm function and relating it to clinically relevant outcomes in assisted reproduction.
The project will combine advanced analysis of sperm functionality, movement patterns associated with biochemical events in sperm cells, and correlations with clinical results. The goal is to generate useful information for clinics and physicians through an intuitive user interface capable of providing near-real-time support.
An international collaboration
The Spermy project is carried out in collaboration with ExSeed Health, a Danish company specialized in the development of advanced diagnostic products that use artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze and interpret complex biological samples.
Fecundis contributes its expertise in sperm biology, assisted reproduction, and the development of sperm-centered technologies. ExSeed Health contributes its experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and diagnostic platforms for biological sample analysis.
Together, the partners are working to develop and validate Spermy as a new AI-based platform for semen analysis in assisted reproduction.
